Saraki Responds to Tinubu’s Mockery, Vows Opposition Will Reorganize

Senator Bukola Saraki, former Senate President, responded directly to President Bola Tinubu’s remarks mocking the crisis in opposition parties.

During his Democracy Day speech on Thursday, President Tinubu criticized opposition groups, saying he enjoyed watching them “in disarray” and made it clear he had no intention of helping them organize. He also denied claims that his administration was trying to establish a one-party state by encouraging defections to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

In reaction, Saraki acknowledged that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other opposition parties were facing internal challenges. Speaking to journalists after the Democracy Day event at the National Assembly, Saraki urged opposition members to take responsibility and rebuild.

“We heard the President say he supports a multi-party democracy and won’t assist us,” Saraki stated. “We accept that, and we’ll take it upon ourselves to sort things out. There’s no pressure now. We’re reaching out and working to bring everyone together. If he won’t help us, we’ll fix our house ourselves.”
